Abstract

Law enforcement professionals are exposed to various critical incidents during their careers. These incidents, coupled with the stressors faced in everyday life, accumulate and can be destructive without proper intervention. Suicides in law enforcement have increased over the past several years at an alarming rate (Blue H.E.L.P, n.d.). Despite this increase, less than ten percent of law enforcement agencies throughout the country have a mental health intervention program in place to address this issue. Law enforcement administrators should place an emphasis on the mental health of their staff by implementing agency supported chaplain and mental health programs.
