Abstract

"Law enforcement departments across the nation are facing a variety of issues concerning best practices, community relations, and public perception. Departments are navigating how to best reach the public when needed information needs to be shared, while maintaining private information as well. There are times when public assistance is needed and has proven valuable in solving crimes. Small and large departments should invest in using social media sites, and various technology advances, as a way to continue to expand and improve community relations. When departments share information on social media, the public is aware of events, criminal activity, or other emergency situations in a timely manner and thus can respond appropriately. This is a free tool for departments to use and can be updated quickly when the need arises. There are multiple benefits to a department using social media to assist them in the day to day operations of the department."
