Since the turn of the century, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have become a major part of law enforcement. For most of the local, state, and federal agencies around the country, UAVs have become an indispensable part of daily operations. In 2022, law enforcement agencies are using UAVs for everything from accident reconstruction to search and rescue missions. The one area where the possibilities of UAVs are not being fully realized is in operations involving special weapons and tactics (SWAT) teams. While most SWAT teams around the country are using UAVs in some capacity, many of them have yet to fully integrate them into all operations. Due to their small size, maneuverability, and the ability to operate them remotely from a safe distance, UAVs are an invaluable tool and should be integrated into SWAT operations. By fully integrating UAVs into all SWAT operations, law enforcement agencies are taking proactive steps toward increasing the safety of citizens, operators, and suspects, as well as improving the chances of operational success.
