Many different policing models have been introduced to police departments in the United States to accomplish this task. A new strategy called intelligence-led policing looks to improve the use of criminal intelligence in a proactive effort to fight crime and discover threats. Law enforcement decision makers need an improved intelligence product for better planning. Police departments should implement the intelligence-led policing model in order to better serve their communities. A new strategy in law enforcement is needed due to the complexity of crime and the impact of terrorism in the United States. Intelligence-led policing would improve the sharing of intelligence within a department and between other law enforcement agencies. It would also improve a police department’s use of resources.
