dc.description.abstractThe objective of this study was to determine if audio alpha biofeedback training and placebo audio alpha biofeedback training would differentially change locus of control orientation. Eighty-four subjects were divided evenly and unobtrusively, and randomly assigned to one of three groups wherein group one subjects received actual audio alpha biofeedback training, group two subjects received placebo audio alpha biofeedback training, and group three received no treatment. Each subject in group one and group two received four fifteen minute individual sessions which spanned a two week period. Subjects in group two (placebo) received tape-recorded audio feedback derived from sessions of a counterpart in group one (experimental). Immediately following the final session, each subject was instructed to complete the ANS-IE instrument developed by Nowicki, which measures locus of control orientation. As well, group three subjects completed the ANS-IE Scale on the final day of sessions for both group one and group two. No significant difference was found at the .01x level with the one-way analysis of variance test. This indicates that no significant relationship could be demonstrated between the biofeedback training (and placebo training) and the dependent variable of locus of control as measured by the ANS-IE scale.
